Stop motion

This video is about a lonely snowman who builds himself a friend, but their friendship doesn't last long because of the sun. I can see that they use clay, wooden sticks, paper and some herbs or part of a leaf etc in the video to create a winter vibe. The two main characters are snowmen, and it is easy to assemble them by stacking 3 white clay balls with eyes, noses and hands. I like how everything is simple but when they are combined together, they worked very well together. I like the style of this video, it looks simple and nice. And the details of their faces change and their body melts is very cute and smooth.

This video is about saving trees, it used only origami and sound effects throughout the whole video. Although it is simple also showed harmony in the video. It used origami to fold into different shapes like rabbits, cars and trees. And this theme is similar to the theme that we are going to do (climate change). Although it is just using origami to make the video, the origami rabbits made the scene more lively in the video when it appears.

This stop motion's characters and sound effects are very cute and appealing. It used clay as the main material to create the characters and the sandwich. I can see their fingerprints on the clays when the character's mood changes because they need to knead them to change their faces and moods. And the rests of the material used are wooden sticks and paper. I think the characters' emotional transformation is very detailed, especially when the main character is eating the sandwich, his cheek and eyes kept moving up and down when chewing, it is funny but somehow a little cute.

Visual Effects

I think this short video is cool because it was edited well and smooth. The motorcycle appeared when he posed for riding on it, the timing and position are cool as well. And the sign on the ground looks exactly like a real sign, it doesn't look edited. I like the details when the motorcycle moved to the position, a helmet also appeared on his head.

This short video is very smooth especially when he became a pile of clothes and catches the hat. It does not look like it was edited we can't even find any edited trace. And I noticed that he is staying in the same location which makes it more smooth when having the effects.

I think this is really cool, as it was about 80 seconds video and it keeps changing the location which makes me feel impressed. The elements in it were so detailed and cool. The video is about a boy getting a gun to kill the virus outside of his house. The effect when the boy scanned the virus, it appeared a box says warning and disinfecting gave me the feeling of watching a movie. And the boy was jumping over the roof, and that is smooth and cool too.

Week 6 & Week 8

  1. Decide the final project medium (Visual effect/ Stop motion)
  2. Define theme (Social issues/ Personal)
  3. Write one paragraph of the story outline.

I decided to make a stop motion for my final project. At first, I wanted to make a funny story but I ended up going with a social issue (Depression- Black Dog).
Here's the first draft of my proposal:

Shooting
In week 11, we went back to campus and have a physical class with Mr Martin, we were divided into a few groups to try shooting a short stop motion.  Here's some of the footage:

Fig 1.10, Footage

Then, we went back to campus for shooting because we wanted to use the camera from school for shooting to get a better result.

But after that, I wasn't satisfied with the outcome because of the lightning and the settings.

Then I decided to shoot it again at home using my phone and stop motion apps.

After the first attempt, I felt something was missing, so I added a puppy bark sound when the puppy is formed in the beginning. Other than that, I also adjusted some of the audio using audio gain and added a black and white filter to the end of the story.

And here's the final outcome:

REFLECTION

It was a new experience for me, I have only seen these online and I'm excited since the semester started, there are a lot of ideas going on in my mind. The results are not as good as I expected, but I did it! It was fun shooting it for the first time, but after the first shooting and I wasn't satisfied with it, I realised that I didn't want to do it again even though the first time was fun, but I still shoot it for the second time for a better result. This module was overall fun and relaxing, special thanks to Mr Martin who guide us through these 14 weeks and gave us feedback weekly.

It's a wrap!!
