Project 2 / Design Expansion

I have 2 ideas for this project 2, the first idea is to make a website to introduce other countries's ghost festivals. The second idea is to make something about an escape room. After consideration, I felt making an escape room would be fun as I have been interested in escape rooms recently and that's where I got the idea from.

Exploration
After confirming the idea that I wanted to do, I searched online for a platform that could create an escape room online. I found 2 websites that are able to create escape rooms online, which are Room Escape Maker and Genially

Room Escape Maker was quite an interesting website for creating an escape room without coding and being able to assign triggers to objects. But I didn't choose it for creating my escape room is because the graphics were limited and unable to import my own assets unless I paid.

Genially is a website with templates which is a different kind of escape room. It doesn't have to solve clues but just has to answer questions which is different from what I wanted to do so I didn't use this website either.

In the end, I chose to use Figma which I am quite familiar with and also able to do the things that I wanted to do.
So my initial idea was to make simple 2D rooms like the reference pictures below. After consulting with Miss Anis, she suggested I try using isometric rooms instead of these and also change the name to "puzzle room" as the player is not escaping the room.

Figma
I started doing it in Adobe Illustrator and imported them to Figma. And I added some elements like the lotus flower, lantern as a table lamp, and the moon as a mat from my previous project to relate back to it.

When the player clicks on the objects, the objects will be enlarged and the background will be blurred to let the player have a closer look at the object and also focus on it.

I had an idea for the clue from Club Penguin's secret agent missions that I used to play when I was little. I wanted to include the secret code below in my puzzle room.

(The window can't be clicked in the beginning as I set it to be triggered after the solution paper in the closet is clicked, to prevent the player from clicking it from the beginning of the game)

FEEDBACK

Week 10
- Should be called a puzzle room instead of an escape room, it is better to focus on one room, can try to explore an isometric room instead of making 2D rooms and using that for the project.

Week 12
- Have a short story before the game to let the player know the story.
- After getting the ticket, show a page of a story using visual style and some text for the ending (Grandmother lying on the bed then passes away peacefully after seeing him there)
- It is better if can add a timer for it when the player finding the clues

REFLECTION

In project 2, I'm quite satisfied with my idea as I love these kinds of mysterious, finding clues like escape rooms. However, using Figma might not be the best solution as some triggering parts need coding to achieve the results I wanted. Throughout the process of creating the puzzle room, the most difficult part was the clues. I need to think about where the clues should be hidden, what the clues should be, and where the ticket should be hidden. I had to plan out everything before doing it in Figma.  Overall this is quite a fun project as I chose the puzzle room to work with. It might not be the best and had a lot of room of improvement, but I'm quite satisfied with how it turns out in the end. Lastly, I wanted to thank Miss Anis for giving me useful feedback on my projects to make it better and have consult section to make sure our progress does not fall behind, thank you:)
