INSTRUCTIONS

Week 1
My group members (Asilah, Adriel, Britney, and Jo Min) decided to choose the topic of the Rescue Device for the Elderly or Disabled project which has to collaborate with West Bohemia University in the Czech Republic. Then we had to straight work on the contextual research on the topic we chose and put them in the miro board.

Week 2 & 3
We had the first meeting with the Czech Republic’s collaborators and heard their interesting presentations about their products. After that, we had to decide which product we are going to collab with.

In the end, we chose to collab with the Emergency Voice Assistant by Filip Spacek. Because our group wanted to have a different and unique product from the others, and also we thought that this product has a lot of possibilities so we chose this product to collab with. We also had some ideas on adding more features to it. After that, we had to start preparing the questions for interviews and questionnaires to get data for our further work.

Week 4
We had our official first meeting this week with our partner from UWB, Filip Spacek. We updated him about our findings and asked him more questions about the product in order to understand more about his product. After the meeting, we created a Whatsapp group chat with Filip so that we can communicate with him directly and not just only waiting for the Friday session. In the group chat, Filip sent us more information about his product and the 3D file to us. Then, we had to improvise our interview questions and start interviewing the elderly.

Week 5
We had a meeting with Filip to discuss about the features of the product. After that, we are going to start interviewing the elderly and have to update the responses in the miro board. We planned to 3D print out the product next week and show the interviewees during the interview since the elderly can’t really imagine the product.

Week 6
At first, we planned to do the 3D printing this week, but the 3D printer is not working so we decided to DIY it on our own by using a face cleanser bottle cap and cutting a round shape from a plastic, then just glued them up using a hot glue gun. It looks very simple, but I think it is very similar to the product.

Week 7
This week, we started to interview the elderly using the prototype we made and uploaded their responses to the miro board. We also still need to work on the other parts like the user journey map in the miro board after getting feedback from Mr. Mike.

Week 8
It’s independent learning week this week, but we still have to work on the miro board about the user journey map and art direction part like color palettes and others.

Week 9
This week we started to focus more details on the art direction board and we decided to create advertisement videos, a website, a Facebook page, an Instagram page, and also campaigns/events to promote our products. Since Britney and I are in charge of the website, we did some research online about the designs of the websites and also discussed briefly the parts of the website that we are going to do.

Week 10 - 12
We amended something based on the feedback we got from sir and decided to remove the collaterals and events from our plan. And also we have to rethink and look for more references of the website’s wireframe to make it more focused on the product.

For our website part, he mentioned that we just need to do a product website which is a microsite that just focuses on the product. So we are redoing it from the beginning again, as we did a long website wireframe instead of a microsite.

And for the video part, he mentioned that advertisement videos are important as the videos are promoting our product and persuade people to buy our product, our idea before was to do animation videos and it might be not suitable for that, so Mr. Mike suggested we use stock videos that have a real person to make it more realistic and more persuasive.

Week 13
For our website, we keep on working on it in Figma and keep experimenting with different colors and finding suitable pictures to include in our website from Pexels, Freepik, and Stock Adobe. We shared our prototype with our groupmates and other friends as we are not that confident about it and also can get feedback from other points of view, especially when we work on it for a long time, we might not be able to identify the shortcoming of our website.

Week 14
We consulted for the last time with Mr. Mike in class this week, and for our website part, he suggested we use graphical elements that are related to our product, for example using soundwaves or dynamic waves to represent our Emergency Voice Assistant which uses voice as the main function. Furthermore, we can also use the pattern on the speaker of the Emergency Voice Assistant to make it a background pattern. Other than that, Mr. Mike also pointed out the problem that the hospital pictures on our website look too serious and might scare the elderly, so we should change them to happy pictures so we will be able to persuade the users to visit our websites.

REFLECTIONS

Week 1
In the first week we have to form into groups of 7 people, and choose the topic for our group. After that, we have to start doing contextual research on the topic we chose and put them in the miro board. In the end, we chose the Rescue Device for the Elderly or Disabled project which has to collaborate with West Bohemia University in the Czech Republic. We also have a class about design thinking, and we should apply design thinking in our work as well.

Week 2
This week we had a meeting with the Czech Republic’s collaborators and heard their interesting presentations. But we had to choose one product to work with. Before that, we had to split our groups into 3 groups of 5 members each for a balanced grouping so our final group includes Asilah, Adriel, Britney, Jo Min and me. I learned to adapt faster as we have to get familiar with our new group and start working on it. Other than that, we had to do more research based on what we had.

Week 3
Our group wanted to have a different and unique product from the others, so we chose the Emergency Voice Assistant patch thing that can stick on the elderly’s skin the whole day. I think the Emergency Voice Assistant is very cool and special since the others are mostly watches. And we also had some ideas on adding more features to it. After that, we had to prepare the questions for interviews and questionnaires during this week’s holiday to get data for our further work.

Week 4
We had our first meeting this week with our partner from UWB, Filip.

Week 6
At first we planned to do the 3D printing this week, but the 3D printer is not working so we decided to DIY it on our own by using a face cleanser bottle cap and cutting a round shape from a plastic, then just glued them up using a hot glue gun. It looks very simple, but I think it is very similar to the product.

Week 7
This week, we started to interview the elderly using the prototype we made, and uploaded their responses to the miro board. We also still need to work on the other parts like the user journey map in the miro board after getting feedback from Mr. Mike. And sir mentioned that we have to track our progress using the Gantt Chart. By using the Gantt Chart to track our progress, I learned to manage my time and discipline better than before.

Since Britney and I are in charge of the website, we did some research online about the designs of the websites and also discussed briefly about the parts of the website that we are going to do.

Week 10
We amended something based on the feedback we got from sir, and decided to remove the collaterals and events from our plan. And also we have to rethink and look for more references of the website’s wireframe to make it more focused on the product. Through the process of researching, I learned that only doing research and saving it as a reference is not enough, we have to identify what makes the website look good, learn from it, and apply them to our website.

Week 11
During the consultation, we basically just showed whatever we had this week to get feedback from Mr. Mike so we can make it better. For our website part, he mentioned that we just need to do a product website which is a microsite that just focuses on the product. And for the video part, he mentioned that advertisement videos are important as the videos are promoting our product and persuade people to buy our product, our idea before was to do animation videos and it might be not suitable for that, so Mr. Mike suggested we use stock videos that have a real person to make it more realistic and more persuasive.

Week 12
Basically we are just continuing our work and amending them based on the feedback from Mr. Mike. For the website part, Britney and I are redoing the website as we did a full website previously and we need to redo it as a microsite. So we are doing it from the beginning again, researching and then doing the wireframes, and experimenting with everything that comes to our mind.

Week 15
Finally the last week of the semester, basically we have done everything for the websites and others have also done their parts for the product and video part. And we just need to complete the project document and prepare the presentation to our UWB partners and let them know what we did throughout these 14 weeks. The presentation was canceled at last, it is a relief to me, but however, even though I didn't really want to present to our UWB partners at first, as Britney said, it is better to show them what we have done throughout these 14 weeks as we are collaborating. Lastly, I felt very happy and relaxed as we finally did everything. Even though the process is not what I expected, I’m happy that we completed our project. Furthermore, I think I learned a lot in this module like teamwork, time management, and also more on creating websites.
