INSTRUCTIONS

FINAL OUTCOME

Since we decided to go for the "Toxic Series Collection", we are going to make our designs using air-dry clay to make the mug, wineglass, and teapot.

Here are the sketches of the mug, wineglass, and teapot:

Fig 1.2, Wineglass

Fig 1.3, Mug

I made the mug with a handle underneath, I used a pill container to make the mug shape and added a handle underneath, so when people want to drink water from this mug, it seems like people are pointing their fists at themselves, which means that the use of violence will also be affected by it. And when the mug is upside down like the photo below, it looks like a kettlebell people used it for workouts and somehow related and make us think of men.

Here are some of our processes when making the products:

FEEDBACK

Week 6 & 7

Specific feedback:
Mr Vinod said that the design is good to go but take noted on one of the mug's handle that we made needed to find more reference to make it more accurate with the real mug. Besides that, find statements that supports the purpose of the used on the box for presenting the artwork we made.

REFLECTION

It was quite interesting that we have to think about a theme and make designs for it, and working with different friends from different courses is fun since we usually know people from the same course. We even went to campus to make our designs using airdry clay together. I learned to brainstorm the most because we need lots of ideas and we tried to be creative and tried jumping out the frame like we used "Toxic Masculinity" as our theme instead of using a normal culture. Overall, it was a good experience since we chose a theme ourselves, we searched for more information then we learned and understand more about "Toxic Masculinity" while we doing research for it.

I'm using airdry clay for the first time, I thought it will be very difficult to make it but actually, it is similar to normal clay. The most difficult part is the surface of the clay will dry out quite soon and have cracks on it, so I have to keep adding some clay and water to mend it. Other than that, I was worrying that the handle won't stick in place or will break easily, but I learned online to make some "rough" surface on top using a fork and add some clay and water to make it stick together.
